Tofu and Broccoli in Oyster Sauce

Do you ever get that feeling of getting tired of eating meat and your body just crave for something healthy? I often get that feeling these days. Summer started early and I’m just not in the mood to cook anything else other than fried dishes because it usually takes just 10-20 minutes. This week, I decided I had enough of the fried food and made sure to not include meat in my groceries. Well, I did buy some cold cuts for my sandwich because it’s one of those foods that I can tolerate eating cold.

Early this week, I was supposed to make tuna lettuce cups but I’ve duped with the lettuce I bought (sigh, long story) and end up making lettuce wraps instead. Still good and healthy even if it didn’t go as planned.

It’s the Lenten season and by tradition, it’s frowned upon to eat any meat. Not that it bothered me with my current food cravings because I really wanted to eat tofu. Tofu and broccoli in oyster sauce is just the perfect dish to make for lunch time.

Tofu and broccoli in oyster sauce

I admit, all that frying with the tofu and blanching the broccoli made me want to dunk myself in a tub filled with cold water but the end result is so much worth it.

Tofu and broccoli with oyster sauce is an easy dish to make. I sauteed minced ginger, garlic and onion with some cooking oil, mixed in a couple of tablespoons of oyster sauce and water, bring it to a boil then throw in the (deep fried and sliced) tofu in the sauce. Mix well then add the broccoli. Mix to coat the broccoli with some sauce. Season to taste.

This dish is very filling. I didn’t need to eat rice with this because I have gone overboard with tofu which is totally fine with me. I’m pretty sure I could experiment more with this stir fry method. Perhaps make use of beef or shrimp instead of tofu or asparagus instead of broccoli.

Drinks make my world go round

Non-alcoholic drinks, that is. Because if I choose that, it would only make my world wobbly and flat because I would definitely be lying flat on the ground after a few drinks of vodka. It’s been years, mind you. So I’m pretty sure I have a very low tolerance of anything with alcohol now.

The title refers to beverages I enjoy drinking for quite some time now. I will not include coffee because seriously, how can one live without coffee? It’s in one of my must drink beverage in a day, next to water and fruit juice, of course.

Let’s start with tea. I love black tea, Earl Grey and Breakfast Tea in particular. I like them hot and sweet. It’s refreshing (yes, even hot teas) and aromatic, it makes me feel good and positive all the time. Whenever I’m out, I would however order Chai Tea or Matcha Green Tea because I don’t know how to make those at home. I like them either hot or cold, and sometimes with soy milk, depends on my mood really.

I am also getting addicted to milk teas these days. A friend introduced Gong Cha Wintermelon Milk Tea to me and I’ve been craving it all the time. I like it best with grass jelly, so good! Aside from fruit juices, milk teas are now my go to summer drink. Forget about coffee blended drinks, milk teas are so flavorful! Oh, and Quickly Taro Ice!
